Lilymoon

Artist : Stavri Kyprou (lilymoon)
Country : Cyprus
Blog : http://lilymoonhome.blogspot.com/
Shop : Etsy
Tell us a little about yourself.
I'm 34 years old, I was born in London and came to live in Cyprus when I was a little girl. I think I decided on becoming an artist when my brother gave me a package of coloured pencils when I was about four. I've been drawing ever since..

What is art for you?
Art is my second language. I hope to tell stories and express my self through it.

Do you also collect other artist's work? Who is your favourite?
I have loads of favourites, especially artists on Etsy. Two of my favourite fellow Etsians are Art and Ghosts and Irene Schwartz. I love browsing on Etsy, it's always inspiring to look at other artist's work.

Other than creating art, what do you usually do for fun/relax?
I write quite a bit, read, take my beloved partner in crime - my dog Nefeli for walks and keep a visual journal, collecting experiences and details from every day life and my make believe stories.

How is life in Cyprus? Can you brief us a little about your daily schedule?
My schedule isn't very exciting i'm afraid: I spend most of my day in my studio, either painting or packaging things to be sent out to customers. I do get caught up in the packaging thing quite a bit as I like everything to be prettily packaged and add little surprises to every parcel. Three things I especially like about Cyprus is firstly the light - I've been to many countries and have never seen light quite like it, secondly spring time is totally beautiful, everywhere you go the scent of lemon and orange blossoms follow you and thirdly Easter, which is celebrated in a very special way here. Things I'm not too fond of are the scorching sun in August and the very high temperatures... But the cool summer nights make up for that!

How is the art/craft market in Cyprus?
I think the arts and crafts movement that's been growing slowly and steadily in the USA and Europe is slowly catching on here too...Most of my friends are artists and it's so good to see them being able to make a living doing what they love most.

Are you a full time artist?
Yes, I am. And I feel extremely lucky and blessed for that.

What or who inspire you?
I get inspired by all sorts of things. Colour for one, observing nature, my books (that are slowly overtaking my house), emotions and last but not least the stories I make up and write.

Is there any grand plan for yourself within the next few years?
My hope is that I'll be able to continue doing what i am doing now - and maybe get some of my illustrated stories published.

Affordable Art - ACEO

Art Cards, Edition and Originals, also widely known as ACEO are small scale art work in size 2.5 x 3.5 inches. I also would like to call them affordable artwork. Can you believe those remarkable ACEO pieces are less than $5? It's one of my favourite size of artwork. I usually prefer smaller scale art (2.5x3.5, 4x6 and 4x4). Oo.. and not forgetting inchies, 1x1 inch, which I will feature later in Kiirey.Blog.

Free as a bird

I'm down with flu. I hate flu, it's making me all flimsy and dizzy. I need some beautiful curation to cheer myself up. Bird is beautiful. Everyone loves to use bird image in their art and design because they are such beautiful creature. Ok, my sentence sounds stupid today, pardon me please, must be the flu pill acting up. Anyway, I'm sure my curation still turn out beautiful.

Dream Studio

Ever wonder how is the artist's studio? As beautiful as their work? You bet. Let's peek into one of my favourite artist, Geninne's studio.

I could sit in this room and stare at this view for hours.

And I thought artist's workstation would be messy?

Let's peek into her drawers too.

Even her kitchen is beautiful.

Lertsis

Artist : lertsis
Country : Thailand
Blog : http://lertsis.blogspot.com/
Flickr : http://www.flickr.com/people/lertsis/
Shops : Etsy Dawanda Mintd

What is art for you?
to me, i consider art as a way people express their true self, to express who their are really am and what they feel at the moment. it's kinda like a magic you can see people's personalities through their art. and yes,my art do reflect myself somehow.
Do you also collect other artist's work? Who is your favourite?
sure! i love collecting nice stuff since i was young. i started by collecting some cute illustrated letter set since i was 7 and i keep doing it till today. i love collecting paper stuff like postcards, notebooks, and even book itself. whenever i travel overseas, i would always drop by some of these stylish stores where they sell so many cool stuff. japan is the best, i can never get enough of japan! okay, and for my fav artists, they are so many! yoshie watanabe, marini monteany, these are my top fav ones.

Other than creating art, what do you usually do for fun/relax?
like others people, i love watching movies, i listen to the music and the time ( can't live without it) i love hanging out with friends and i love cocktails!
How is life in Thailand? Can you brief us a little about your daily schedule?
if talking about this moment, i sleep for just a few hours. im a last year student in college and i have to do this major project and the last project and the deadline is coming up so wake up and 7 and turn on computer, have lunch at 12 and continue with my work and sleep when i think i can't force my brain and my eyes to work anymore. but sometime, i would find an excuse to go out for a while. it's kinda torturing me staying at home and stare at the screen all day long!

How is the art/craft market in Thailand?
if you talk about craft, thai craft is quite a big market. it's some kind like traditional craft stuff. thai people really do have very own style. but if for contemp art, comparing to japan, art market in thailand is still very tiny. but it's been growing bigger than earlier and pretty sure gonna be bigger in the future.
Are you a full time artist?
no, im still a student, last year though
What or who inspire you?
it's quite random, can be anything. like great piece of art can inspire me. some now conversation from the movie can inspire me. some people with their creativity can inspire me. people with great passion can also inspire me.

Is there any grand plan for yourself within the next few years?
i hope i will be doing this and develop more of it. trying to find a way to live my life by doing this since i found it the thing i enjoy doing the most
Any shout out to the blog readers?
thank you for reading this! :D and for anyone who wants to starting some art but sill afraid it wont' work well. just keep practicing. not saying im a great artist but i was so so much lousy in the past. but if you keep doing it everyday until it's click and you found your style. and that day you will be very proud of what your art has turned into.

I curated today's theme for a very special friend who is going through hardship in life but her closest friends (me being one of them) and family are not by her side right now. I know what she needs most is a good hug, which I'm not able to give her at the moment.

A Little Pinch of Blues

Previous two posts are more of the reds (polkadots and pomegranate), so today I curated some blues. I hope everyone will like what I scouted. Blue always makes me calm and relaxing. I never understand why people say, 'feeling blue' and associate it with depression and sadness when it's such a soothing colour.

In Love with Polkadots

I love polkadots. Who don't? I keep stashing polkadots fabric even thought I have no use of them. But when I see polka-dots fabrics, I just need to stash them in my shopping cart. Do you have such obsession too?

My own collection. Hmm...what should I do with them?

I paid a little visit to Dawanda today and I started my search today on polka-dots (what else?) and look what I spotted. How I wish I could stash them into my shopping basket too.

We will be introducing and bringing you a lot of beautiful and unique item, handmade and handpicked from around the world.

The Blogger:

Hey hey, my name is Kelly Koo and I am from Malaysia. I love spending hours and hours over the internet, surfing and lurking in indie handmade website such as Etsy, Dawanda, flickr groups and beautiful art/design blogs. And after spending days and nights admiring work of others and shop at Etsy almost every month, suddenly I thought to myself 'so why don't I compile all the beautiful findings and share with everyone?'. So hence Kiireyblog comes about.

Once a while I craft and illustrate too. I love making plushies (especially felt food and plushies), illustrate with ink and acrylic (rubber stamping and painting), and making jewelries. Among my favourite materials are colorful felt, fabric (I am crazy with fabrics and I own a fabric shop at Etsy too), buttons, vintage ephemeras (I don't use them but I keep collecting them) and polymer clay.

I used to work 12 hours/day as an engineer but I realized life is too short and beautiful to be wasted inside cubicle and machine bounded work areas. Such dull and dry career. And so now I am taking part time Graphic Design course and try to start all over again. It's never too late. :)

Launching Kiirey Blog

This is a blog to showcase illustration and creativity, handmade and handpicked and everything uniquely beautiful. I launched the blog with a first entry featuring Malaysian creative artist and crafter. In conjuction of the blog, the website www.kiirey.com will launch sometime in March, but everything is not complete yet (well, you will just see some very empty template). So please be patient and have fun with the blog first :)
